The reform of the Espanya Industrial park begins

This week the renovation works began at the Espanya Industrial park, in the Sants-Montjuïc district and next to Sants station. The objective of this work is to improve the accessibility and adaptation of the park based on the proposals expressed by the different groups of users of this green area.

The reform of the Espanya Industrial park is one of the projects presented and chosen by citizens during the 2020 participatory budget process. The initiative arose from the Associació de Veïns d'Hostafrancs and the Center Social de Sants and was the one that reaped more supports, with 3,351 votes.

The project concretion work provides for the reorganization and improvement of uses, services, vegetation and part of the existing facilities. The budget to carry out the actions exceeds one million euros.

The works, which will last until June 2024, will allow the children's area to be expanded, which will include inclusive play elements, and the dog recreation area, which will be moved to another location, in order to reduce its impact on the park.

There will also be a large space for different outdoor activities, a calisthenics area and a new multipurpose sports court. In addition, the petanque area will be fixed, new street furniture will be placed and performances will be held in the space dedicated to table tennis.

Next to the pediment space, a grass bed will be installed surrounded by shrub species in a gradient. This area will be used for both educational and pedagogical activities, as well as relaxation activities (yoga, pilates, etc.) in a more controlled and calm environment. The sculptures will also be restored to preserve the park's historical heritage.

The green areas will incorporate some Mediterranean-type shrub species that are easy to maintain and require less water. They will be spaces of comfort and to mitigate heat and noise.

During the seven months of works, all necessary measures will be adopted to minimize inconvenience to the neighborhood. It is not planned to close the entire park at any time, but only the areas where work is being carried out at all times, in phases.
