The PSPV launches itself to fear the feminist vote in a tough fight with Compromís and Unides Podemos

The PSPV is launched for the feminist vote. In full internal debate within the movement (trans law, abolition of prostitution and even 'law of only yes is yes'), the socialists want to show themselves to the electorate as the strongest defender of women's rights. A bet that forces them to fully confront their government partners and even with the PP which, after the reduction of sentences for violators for the application of the law advocated by United We Can, has reinforced its discourse on this flank. The problem for the popular is that their proximity to Vox reduces the power of their speech.

In this context and four months before the municipal and regional elections, the PSPV yesterday presented a whole series of equality initiatives at a time when, in its opinion, "women's rights are questioned by the right and the extreme right, which makes us in an emergency situation". In this sense, its general deputy secretary and head of Equality, Ana Domínguez, called on the media to announce the launch of a campaign with which the socialists will tour the entire Valencian Community to sit down with feminist associations and collect proposals on equality.

Although Domínguez pointed to the right, the message is also directed towards her partners with whom she must fight for the banner of feminism. For this reason, it is not trivial that the proposals on which the socialist leader emphasized yesterday were the two legislative modifications that the socialist group presented in Les Corts without counting on its partners -reform of the highways and that of shows- to move towards the abolition of prostitution. A matter where the partners of the Botànic have been clashing throughout the legislature.

Compromís has not liked the initiatives, above all because of the forms - the PSPV wants them to be approved without debate or amendments by the single reading formula -, as their parliamentary spokespersons already made clear on Tuesday. But not in the background either. Sources from the First Vice Presidency and the Ministry of Equality explained yesterday to La Vanguardia that they do not consider that "a dry law against prostitution" can work.

They understand that to put an end to this problem, a more transversal perspective is needed than a mere punitive strategy. In addition, they reiterate their arguments that this type of modification - without entering into an assessment of what their parliamentary group will do in Les Corts in the face of the socialist proposal - may end up harming the most vulnerable part, that is, the woman who prostitutes herself.

And it is that Compromís has not moved from the position against the abolition that in its day was implemented by the then vice president Mónica Oltra. Although there was some internal debate and the coalition even signed texts and initiatives in favor of abolition in the regional Parliament, the position of the leader of Compromís was the one that ended up winning the battle in the party. Now, her replacement, Aitana Mas (also from Inciativa), maintains the same position.

In fact, those around them believe that the PSPV's position is "electoralist" and they understand that "legislating in a hurry and thinking about the elections is not the most appropriate thing."

There are many in Compromís who believe that the presentation of these proposals in Les Corts -which was registered last week and subsequently recovered- could be a response from the Socialists to the decision of the Valencian party to present a new proposal for reform of the financing model.

Be that as it may, and as this newspaper pointed out in its Wednesday edition, what is becoming increasingly apparent is that, as the electoral date approaches, the parties feel more free to wage war on their own .
