The PSOE expels Leguina from militancy for supporting Ayuso in his last electoral campaign

The leadership of the PSOE has formally communicated this Tuesday to the veteran Joaquín Leguina his expulsion as a party member, due to the support he attributes to the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, of the Popular Party, during the campaign of the regional elections from last year.

The expulsion of the militancy of Leguina, who was the first regional president of Madrid in 1983 -and also the only one that the PSOE has had in this community in the entire democracy, since Alberto Ruiz Gallardón succeeded him in 1995-, has been consummated precisely when there are only five months left for the next regional elections on May 28, 2023.

The process that has now culminated in the expulsion of Leguina from the PSOE has been delayed for long months. In fact, more than a year and a half. Sources from Ferraz's management justify this long term, precisely because his file has been processed "with all the guarantees for the member, who has been able to claim everything he considers."

In May 2021, the federal executive of the PSOE led by Pedro Sánchez opened an expulsion file from the party against Leguina -and also against another veteran far removed from the current leadership of Ferraz, Nicolás Redondo, whose process was instead archived-, for his alleged support for Ayuso during that electoral campaign, by starring in a joint visit. In this early appointment with the polls in the Community of Madrid, the leader of the PP obtained an indisputable victory, with 44.7% of the votes, which now allows her to govern alone, although without an absolute majority.

In Ferraz they explain that the ethics and guarantees commission of the PSOE, which is "an autonomous body that watches over the rights and duties of members", has now resolved the expulsion of Leguina. For his support for Ayuso.
