The controversial decision of the national leadership of the Partit dels Socialistas in Premià de Mar (Maresme) to promote the replacement of the current spokesperson and electoral candidate, David Gutiérrez, whom they tried to convince to continue for another year and then hand over to Luz Cánovas , who is finally the one who will lead the electoral list of the PSC to the next municipal elections. Gutiérrez, in exchange for leaving, has been offered an unspecified position in other extra-municipal political spheres.
David Gutiérrez was willing to continue after two terms in the City Council and "with an attractive project still unfinished" but, according to sources close to the local socialists, his unruly character with some decisions of the party at the county level earned him some enmities that finally They have imposed their opinion. "I am at the disposal of my party" finally responded the current councilor for Economic Promotion, to pressure from both the First Secretary, Salvador Illa and the secretary of municipal politics, Joaquim Fernández.
In statements to La Vanguardia, Gutiérrez has avoided entering into controversies, but has acknowledged that he did not like "the option of continuing for a year and then leaving" as initially proposed by the socialist leadership. He assumes that the electoral situation for the PSC is optimal , both at the Catalan level and at the local level "after having fought since 2014 to propose a capable alternative" in Premià de Mar and accepts that his successor is Luz Cánovas, with whom he claims to maintain a very good relationship. Socialist militants criticize the decision and lament that the socialist leadership imposes a candidate "little known and less likely to win votes than David Gutierrez."
David Gutierrez insists that "I will continue to support the collective project" in Premià de Mar and in regard to its future, he replies that "the party can count on me to work in another political field". In this sense, the socialist leaders have simply promised him a position in another political establishment, but they have not made any firm offer for the moment.
For her part, Luz Cánovas was chosen to lead the Premià de Mar Socialists list in the 2023 Municipal Elections by the local assembly on October 27. She is councilor for people and talent management, animal welfare, sports and physical activity at the Premià City Council. Obviously, she has been the only one who has presented a candidacy, obtaining the support of the militancy.
