The Primavera Sound begins its American landing in Los Angeles

The expansion plans of the Primavera Sound festival were scheduled to materialize in 2020 in the American Los Angeles, but the coronavirus made it impossible.

Now, today, the premiere of the festival born in Barcelona twenty years ago on the American continent is finally going to be a reality. Its first departure from the European continent - it has already had an edition in Porto for a few years - will take place over three days that will be held at the L.A. State Historic State Park, with a poster of more than sixty soloists and groups with the seal of the house in terms of their selection criteria.

Lorde, Nine Inch Nails and Arctic Monkeys will be the three headliners, to which must be added a list of names where legends coexist, emerging artists with their own light and references of varied styles.

Thus, the fan will be able to taste referential names of a very varied flavor such as James Blake, Cigarettes After Sex, Khruangbin or King Krule, enjoy small legends such as Kim Gordon, Low and Stereolab, or promises consolidated in record time such as Fontaines D.C. and Amyl and the Sniffers.

To them must be added names aimed at the Latin market such as Arca, Buscabulla, Paloma Mami, Divino Niño or He killed a motorcycle policeman, or from the Catalan scene such as Núria Graham, Marina Herlop, Bad Gyal or John Talabot.

This first edition will be followed in the coming weeks by the premieres of Primavera Sound in Sao Paulo (Oct. 31-Nov. 6), Buenos Aires (November 7-13) and Santiago de Chile (also November 7-13).

The co-director of the festival, Alfonso Lanza, has explained to different Latin media the reasons and characteristics of this transoceanic expansion.

To El Sol de México, for example, he commented that Los Angeles was a very important city for the organization, not only because it is one of the most important cities when it comes to music, but also because in previous editions in Barcelona they have registered a significant presence of North American citizens, mainly from the West Coast, in addition to a significant number of Latinos.

Along the same lines, he has also assured that "although we had other possible cities in the United States to locate Primavera Sound, there is something in L.A. that makes us think that it has a similar vibration to Barcelona: the proximity of the sea, the character of the people, the passion for music… we felt more comfortable in L.A. than in another city and we believed that a Primavera in this city was going to be a recognizable Primavera as such".
