The president of the hoteliers apologizes for describing the half-day as "from 12 to 12"

The president of the Hospitality Industry of Spain, José Luis Yzuel, has had to apologize publicly after the stir of some of his statements in which he stated that "all our lives we have worked in hospitality half-day, from 12 to 12." These were words that he spoke this Tuesday during the conference organized by Cepyme to address the problem of vacancies in Spain, an obstacle that especially affects the hospitality sector.

In the debate, Yzuel let himself go. He began by stating that when “a waiter is told that he works ten hours, I don't know if it is serious, what difference does it make if he works ten hours, that he is compensated, that he is paid, that he is given more vacations! It seems that it is serious in this country, to work in high season, which is when you have to take advantage, and it seems that it is reviled."

In an informal tone, the president of the hoteliers continued to complain that the young population does not go to work, and with conditions “that I don't even tell you about.” “Working a split shift, working on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, the hours, (here he puts his hands on his head) that make ten hours! Damn, what a pain! Yes, all our lives we have worked part-time in hospitality, from 12 to 12.”

When these statements became known and criticism came, they forced the president of the hoteliers to apologize. In a video on social networks, he declares himself “sorry for a comment, a joke… I am sorry that I made a mistake by making a joke about such a serious topic,” and continues stating that “I am very sorry for this joke that has slipped in, I inton "The mea culpa, I feel a little sad, but we are going to continue working and I hope it is understood that it was a very inappropriate joke."

These are apologies that have not convinced the combative X account (formerly Twitter) @SoyCamarero that agitates the networks by spreading problematic situations of colleagues. Its author, Jesús Soriano, affirms that "no one can believe that this is a joke, it is a monumental screw-up, that it is something that seems to have come from within you and that we are in public, behind it I don't want to know how this man thinks" .

Soriano also adds that he is convinced that the president of the hoteliers "thinks that we are ignorant" and asks for his resignation because "a person like that, who thinks this way about the waiters, about the sector, cannot be leading this position." He ended up stating that "I would personally ask for his resignation, he cannot be in that position, it's enough to laugh at the workers."
