The president of the Consell d'Eivissa, investigated for a corruption complaint

The president of the Consell d'Eivissa and candidate of the PP for this island to the autonomous elections, Vicent Marí, must declare as being investigated in a court of the island for an alleged crime of prevarication. A complaint is being investigated for a contract made by the island institution through the emergency route in the midst of a pandemic, in June 2020. The complaint was filed by the PSOE.

It is a tourist promotion video made by Fuera de Escena Ibiza for which they paid 250,000 euros with which they sought to reactivate the tourist market, completely canceled during the confinement, and which was beginning to awaken precisely at that moment.

The PSOE filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Office after the Consell's deputy controller wrote a report in which she raised doubts about the legality of the contract. The official argued that she did not meet the emergency conditions to offset the economic impact that COVID had on the islands. She also denounced that there was no prior inspection of the contract.

The Anti-Corruption Office decided to take the case before the Prosecutor's Office because, although the contract was awarded to Fuera de Escena Ibiza, it was finally carried out by another company, Republicana de Cine, where at that time a councilor from the PP of Santa Eulària appeared as proxy in the years in which the current president of the Consell was mayor of the municipality. This alleged relationship is what led the PSOE to file a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Office, considering that crimes of prevarication, embezzlement and document falsification may have been committed.

The president of the institution, Vicent Marí, assures that the complaint is unfounded and insists that it is a PSOE maneuver to harm him, especially now that he will repeat the Balearic Parliament as number one of the PP for the island of Eivissa.

Marí adds that she has no problem testifying and, in fact, assures that she had already requested to appear voluntarily to give all the explanations. Marí has regretted that the summons to testify arrives when there are less than four months to go before the elections, but she has hoped that, after her statement, the case will be filed. "Perhaps it was orchestrated by others, and I conform to how justice works", she has said regarding the proximity of the elections.
