The Port of Tarragona tests a green energy management system

The Port of Tarragona is working on a pilot test to implement a 'Smart Grid', an intelligent green energy management system. It will do so through the installation of 490 solar panels in Refugi 1 of the Moll de Costa, which will generate a power of 200Kwh. The objective is to define what the future energy community should be like, which should improve the efficiency of the set of equipment of the port entity.

For the moment, the APT has already started drafting the project in order to define the technical solution of this smart network. For their part, twelve companies have entered the competition to take over the installation of fifty solar panels, which have an approximate cost of 235,927 euros.

The new installation will be added to another six that are already in operation and that are located on the roof of the administrative building, in the new Punt d'Ispecció Fronterer (PIF) building in the Duanes premises, in the Fishermen's Guild, in the Port Police building and the Museu del Port.

According to the port entity, the future plant will produce 17% of the electrical energy consumed by the Mol de Costa. In fact, with the incorporation of these panels, the production system will achieve a maximum capacity of 338 MWh per year, of which 282 MWh will be for self-consumption. In addition, a reduction in CO2 emissions and savings of 56,450 euros are estimated.
