The Police rule out the presence of explosives after evacuating several streets in Madrid due to an alert

The National Police have evacuated offices, restaurants and stores from several streets in the Salamanca neighborhood of Madrid due to a bomb warning. After activating the protocols and tracking the place, the agents determined that it was a false alarm and have already withdrawn the security operation.

The alert, which has originated from two calls with bomb threats at the Center for Technological Development (CDTI) and Innovation dependent on the Ministry of Science and located at number 4 Cid Street, has forced the eviction of more of 150 people.

The streets affected by this incident are Cid, Villanueva, Recoletos, Serrano and Paseo de Recoletos. The National Police and the Municipal Police are at the scene.

It was at 2:30 p.m. this Wednesday when the Police received a notice that there was an explosive device in the Center for Technological Development and Innovation, located at number 4 Cid Street, 300 meters from Puerta de Alcalá.

Given this, the agents have evacuated the building, buildings and neighboring establishments, about 150 people in total, and have cordoned off the area, preventing the circulation of cars and pedestrians. With the help of canine guides, and after two searches with negative results searching for any trace of explosives, the agents concluded that it was a false alarm.

At the time of the eviction, a conference of the Science for Peace and Security Program (SPS) was being held in that building, which promotes dialogue and practical cooperation between NATO member states and partner countries.

After the notice, the intervention of the permanent representative of Spain in NATO, Jose Pedro Torrubia Asenjo, and the head of the CDTI, Javier Ponce Martínez, was planned.
