The small town of L'Ametlla de Casserres, in Berguedà, currently has 111 inhabitants. In this municipality, located between Gironella and Cal Rosal, the old Monegal textile colony was located.
The workers lived in the attic of the factory in the early years. Subsequently, individual houses were built, which are still inhabited by the descendants of those sacrificed workers.
The church of Our Lady of Roser was built at the end of the 19th century, with a project by the architect Alexandre Soler, commissioned by the owner of the textile factory, Josep Monegal.
In its design, a surprising neo-Gothic style was chosen, inspired by European Gothic architecture. Its stylized silhouette and its Gothic elements make it stand out a lot in the region.
L'Ametlla de Casserres is also known as Colònia Monegal. And it is that it presents a classic structure of a textile colony, with a lock, canal and factory, a street of houses for the workers, the owner's tower and the church, the protagonist of this report in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.
