The opposition to the Sabadell City Council asks the government to clarify the dismissal of the deputy mayor

The opposition of the Sabadell City Council calls on the local government of the PSC to clarify the motivations that have triggered the dismissal of the, until now, third deputy mayor, Jesús Rodríguez. The consistory communicated the decision on Monday night after the mayoress, Marta Farrés, received "threats and coercion." For this reason they also denounced him to the prosecutor's office.

However, Rodríguez claims to be an "honest person" and that, for that reason, he sent an email to Farrés concerned about detecting "irregularities and collusion in the management of a SMATSA file", the company in charge of garbage collection. and street cleaning in the city and who is under investigation for his hiring.

In a brief message from the now ex-regidor, he considers that Farrés has "defamed him for being honest." Without going into detail, and for now he refuses to delve into this aspect, but he concludes: "Honest people do not last in politics."

From ERC, the mayor, Gabriel Fernández calls on the council to clarify the background of everything to prevent the city from "returning to the news" due to "irregular practices" denounced by a councilor.

On the part of Crida per Sabadell, they demand to know the content of the email that Rodríguez is talking about: "If there is any doubt about a management, and more so with a contract like that of SMATSA, we want to clarify the facts immediately", they detail in a statement , encouraging Rodríguez that if he has evidence of irregularities, report the situation to justice.

In addition, the mayor of Ciutadans, Joan García, has spoken, demanding transparency from the local government and providing the information it has on the concession report: "We suspect that we are facing the same PSC as always, with the same practices that we have seen in the past. We are fed up with the fact that the name of Sabadell always has to appear in the press due to irregular matters, ”he said, warning that he does not rule out taking the case to the prosecution if the necessary information is not provided to clarify the doubts.

For its part, Junts per Sabadell, also in the opposition, have for now ruled out making any assessments in this regard. The local executive has also assured that he is not planning to make any further comments on the afer beyond the notice of termination made public on Monday.

In a statement, former councilor Jesús Rodríguez has announced that he has placed his dismissal in the hands of lawyers. In the text, Rodríguez has defended himself against the accusations and has denied having "threatened or coerced" the mayoress at any time. "I don't know what you can fear on an electoral or technical level, but what I can say is that neither now nor ever have I failed the mayor or any other person in the city council in this regard," Rodríguez assured.

Given what happened, the former mayor has stated that after his dismissal there is "someone" willing to attack his honesty and has insisted that the accusations against the mayoress "are categorically false." "I will not consent to them and I will use all possible legal means to protect my honesty," Rodríguez concluded.
