The new executive of Junts will decide on the candidates who did not pass the cut in congress

The new management of Junts per Catalunya starts its journey this Tuesday with a hot potato on the table. The leaders must decide in a meeting on the two candidates who, by little, did not pass the cut imposed by the regulations of the congress to be elected as members of the executive, 50% of the votes. It is not a minor matter since one of them, David Torrents, was the person proposed for a key position such as the organization secretary.

Given that there was only one candidacy in the conclave that took place in Argelers last Saturday, the possibility of including them through an executive agreement, through a political pact, had been considered, but there are cadres who have already mobilized from that very moment to respect what was voted.

In the event that Torrents, a councilor in Badalona, is left out, the secretary general, Jordi Turull, has the power to appoint another candidate for the organization's secretariat and should be validated by the national council.

Be that as it may, despite the fact that Torrents and the deputy of the Parlament Ester Vallès end up forming part of the new leadership, in Argelers it was already highlighted that these profiles, as well as that of one of the vice presidents of the formation, Aurora Madaula, begin their journey in the executive marked by the lack of support from the militancy. The third secretary of the Catalan Chamber of Commerce also won the position by just a handful of votes. Other history is the one of the exconseller Miquel Sàmper. that he will be left out due to incompatibilities due to his positions in the administration.

The procedure to relieve the members, Sàmper and Vallès, is not clear. But the profiles that have been touched are all proposed by the new president of Junts, Laura Borràs, who left the congress with an unexpected scenario, came third in the votes behind one of her vice-presidents, Anna Erra, and behind Turull , which was the most voted and acclaimed in the Jean Carrere space in the town of Catalunya del Nord.

Thus, the positions proposed by her in the leadership were the ones that received the least support if a global calculation is made, although the participation did not exceed 40% in any of the three virtual ballot boxes enabled, that of the presidency and vice-presidencies, the secretary general, secretary of organization and secretary of finances, and that of the executive.

This circumstance breathes air into the institutional sector for the second part of the congress, in which the political paper (directed by Aleix Sarri), the municipal document (Jordi Fàbrega), the sectoral document (Damià Calvet) and the organizational document (Violant Cervera) will be debated. ). In La Farga de l'Hospitalet, in mid-July, a modification of the statutes is planned and capital issues will be decided such as what is the pact policy in the next electoral cycle, which will start, foreseeably with the municipal ones in 2023, what to do with the pact with the PSC in the Barcelona Provincial Council or with the agreement with the Esquerra Republicana in the Govern. The councilor Victòria Alsina and Josep Rius, spokesperson and vice president of the party, have prepared an audit that will be addressed at that meeting, but the possibility of consulting the affiliates about the pact with the ERC was taken out of Borràs's sleeve in an interview a few years ago weeks, since that entry scenario was not contemplated.

The more or less common reading within Junts was that the postulates of the more institutional sector won integers for that appointment. On the other hand, it was clear that with the few supports that Torrents added, a profile like that of David Saldoni, deputy and former organization secretary, now in charge of municipal politics and possible deputy general secretary, came out stronger to continue having weight within JxCat especially in your field.

After the congress, at the beginning of July, it is time to renew the 20 members proposed by the executive for the national council. In addition, after the celebration of the congress, in the coming months other training bodies will be renewed, although the current national council began its mandate less than a year ago, in September 2021. In the municipalities, and in the veguerías and county directorates, the plan designed by Jordi Sànchez, former general secretary, and his team was that there would be renewal of the local bodies if it was required or there was some kind of conflict. "Let the situation be resolved where it is necessary and where everything is fine, we do not create a problem," was the maxim when making that decision.

Although the leadership of JxCat has been renewed, the party's spokesperson will continue to be Rius, who began in office a few weeks ago when Elsa Artadi, before leaving politics, had decided to focus on the race for Barcelona. She was one of the consensus candidates within the party. In addition, he is deputy spokesman in Parliament and vice president.
