This Friday, the National Court released, although with precautionary measures such as the withdrawal of passports and the obligation to appear in court every day, two detained last Tuesday in Olot (Girona) for Islamist radicalization.
The two men, aged 23 and 37, had caused social alarm in Olot due to their radical behavior, especially among the town’s Muslim population, since they supposedly spread apologies for jihadist terrorism on networks and had internalized the ideology and postulates more radical and violent members of Daesh.
After analyzing the technological material seized from the two individuals, the Mossos d’Esquadra have reported that in the past one of the two detainees had been affiliated with violent extremism of a national socialist nature.
In a joint operation by the National Police and the Mossos d’Esquadra, the two suspects were arrested last Tuesday after an exhaustive investigation launched last February for self-indoctrination and glorification of terrorism. According to legal sources, the two detainees have been released due to the absence of clear indications about the commission of the alleged acts.
In separate statements, the National Police and the Mossos d’Esquadra have detailed that one of those arrested participated in groups in which martyrdom was discussed and in which some of its members were interested in the search for firearms, and that Both advocated jihadist terrorism from different social media profiles.
The Mossos have stated that the investigation was opened thanks to citizen collaboration and that their process of violent radicalization was evolving, which is why they consider that the arrests have prevented them from reaching stages that would pose a danger to citizens.
Likewise, the Catalan police have confirmed that one of the detainees has been carrying out indoctrination work on the second for months, through propaganda created for this purpose by production companies related to Daesh and Al-Qaeda, including products of ideological conviction and others of tactical and training nature.
The detainees have a record of several crimes, but they were not known to have previous relationships with terrorism, according to the Mossos. In addition, a third person, in his case 39 years old, has been investigated for the same events.
