The narco-submarine in the Ría de Arousa had the capacity to transport five tons of cocaine

The 'narcosubmarine' located one mile off the coast of Vilaxoán (Pontevedra) had the capacity to transport five tons of cocaine and the engine area was insulated with lead to avoid being detected by heat sensors.

These are some of the first data that have been known on the afternoon of this Tuesday about the characteristics of the submersible found on Monday by sailors in waters near the Arousan coast.

Once it was towed to land, sources of the investigation have indicated to Europa Press that the bathyscaphe had the capacity to transport about five tons of cocaine.

Likewise, its interior was compartmentalized into three separate spaces. The bow part was a chamber flooded with water to stabilize the boat.

For its part, the central area would be dedicated to cargo, while the rear of the 'narcosubmarine' was lined with lead to isolate the heat from the engine and thus avoid detection.

From now on, the investigation will try to find information on the boat that gives some clue about the construction of the semi-submersible, its origin, and if it has carried a drug load inside it at some point, as explained by the Government delegate in Galicia, Jose Minones.

He has said about the technical characteristics of the 'narco-submarine' that it is "very similar" to the one found in Aldán in 2019 (in that case he had drugs on board, about 3 tons of cocaine, and there were 7 arrests, including those of the three crew members of the boat).

Also built in fiberglass and with a similar design, the main difference between the two semi-submersibles is that the Arousa has a different tubing system, in the outer stern area. In addition, in this case, the ship has a name, since on one of its sides it can be read, written freehand and with blue paint, "The Poseidon".
