The National Police in Mallorca has arrested the mother of the baby who was thrown into a garbage container in the town of Porto Cristo, in Mallorca. Along with her mother, two other people who helped throw the baby into the trash when he was just born have also been arrested. It is not ruled out that there will be new arrests because the investigation is still underway.
The baby was a girl who weighed just 300 grams and the Police are investigating whether she was thrown away alive or if she was already dead when they threw her in the middle of the garbage. The autopsy has not yet determined this circumstance, but the person who discovered the facts claims that she heard a faint cry and, when checking inside the container, she found that something was moving.
The baby was located last Thursday when this woman called the Police to notify her discovery. She was walking through the area when she saw a man loitering near the strangely shaped containers until, at one point, she threw a package that she was carrying into the container.
The woman approached to check what she had thrown and that was when she discovered the baby. The woman claims that another person was traveling in the same vehicle in the passenger seat, so she decided to take a look at what they could have thrown into the container.
Police officers and health personnel immediately went to the scene and found the minor wrapped in blankets full of blood. She was urgently transferred to the Manacor hospital. At first it was reported that she died on the way to the hospital, but that is not entirely clear now. The police officers who discovered the girl believe she was alive when they found her.
The Police report that the Judicial Police group has carried out such a rapid investigation thanks to citizen collaboration and the speed with which they acted when the baby was discovered. The area was immediately cordoned off and the Police collected testimonies from people who were in the vicinity at that time. Recordings from security cameras in the area were also reviewed to help discover who placed the baby inside the container.
