The most famous works of the Greek composer Vangelis

The Greek composer Evangelos Odysséas Papathanassíou, known as Vangelis, passed away last Tuesday, although the news was made public today. The musician is the author of some of the mythical soundtracks in the history of cinema, which endure in the collective memory.

Surely his best-known work is Chariots of Fire, which earned him the Oscar for best soundtrack in April 1982. With it, the composer managed to ensure that the efforts of the group of British athletes preparing for the 1924 Olympic Games crossed the screen. The author himself said that the score was a kind of tribute to his father, an amateur runner. However, Vangelis signed the film music for Blade runner, 1492: The conquest of Paradise, Missing and hundreds of other works that he composed throughout his prolific career.

Although the soundtrack for The Year We Lived Dangerously (1982) is composed by Maurice Jarre, the main theme of the film, already included in Opera Sauvage, was created by Vangelis.
