Agents of the Generalitat Police from the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of Lleida arrested a 28-year-old man on the afternoon of August 17, as the alleged perpetrator of five violent robberies committed in the city of Lleida, one on last year and four during 2023. Four of the robberies were carried out in game rooms and recreation rooms and the other in a supermarket, the most recent.
The modus operandi of the investigated consisted of accessing the gaming rooms with an identity document that corresponded to another person. Since it was a documentation from a country where there is no photograph, there was no element that alerted that the person arrested was not its owner. Once in the gaming room he displayed a large knife to intimidate the workers and stole amounts of money, between 260 and 4,818 euros.
On August 16, the person under investigation entered a supermarket belonging to a well-known chain in Lleida. Once in the checkout line and after leaving some products to show that it was a purchase, he intimidated the cashier with a large knife. He accessed the box recorder and took the collection.
The following day, a device was set up to search for the thief, which the DIC agents were already searching for other robberies committed in the gambling halls. In this sense, it is worth noting the collaboration of a citizen who alerted the police regarding a possible location of the person being investigated.
Finally, at half past two in the afternoon, agents from the Territorial Investigation Unit of the Lleida DIC were able to arrest him on a street in the municipality.
In the entrance and investigation carried out at his home, the investigators found the large knife and the clothes that he would have used in some of the robberies.
The detainee will go to court in the next few hours before the investigative court on guard duty in Lleida.
