The money that Jonas Vingegaard takes as the winner of the Tour de France

Jonas Vingegaard has been proclaimed champion of the Tour de France. A victory that he already had in his pocket, but which he officially certified last Sunday in the twenty-first stage, covering 115.6 kilometers through the streets of Paris until he reached the Champs-Élysées. In this last stage in the French capital he did not need to occupy the podium to maintain his first place in the general classification, a podium that was climbed by Jasper Philipsen, Dylan Groenewegen and Alexander Kristoff. The top three places overall went to Jonas Vingegaard, Tadej Pogacar and Geraint Thomas.

The position in the table, obviously, influences the economic prize that each cyclist takes. Vingegaard, as champion, pockets 500,000 euros; Pogacar takes 200,000; and Thomas, who closes the podium, 100,000. From there, the amounts go down progressively until the 19th classified, who gets 1,100 euros. From the twentieth to the last, as long as the competition has finished, 1,000 are given.

In addition to the remuneration for the position in the general table, prizes are distributed for each stage (11,000 euros for the winner, 5,500 for the second and 2,800 for the third; until the twentieth, which takes 300), for jerseys (the winner the green jersey for regularity receives 25,000 euros; the one for the white jersey for the best youngster 20,000; and the one for the polka dot mountain jersey 25,000) and for sprints and passes through mountain passes.

To the individual premiums must also be added the prizes for teams. For each stage, the winning team takes 2,800 euros. In addition, according to the final classification, larger amounts are distributed to the five leaders. In this way, Ineos Grenadiers, champion team, takes 50,000 euros; Groupama-FDJ, 30,000; Jumbo-Visma, 20,000; Bora-Hansgrohe, 12,000; and Movistar, 8,000.

There are also other special categories with financial awards. This is the case of the award for the most combative cyclist, which is awarded per stage (2,000 euros) and after the general classification (20,000 euros, won by Wout Van Aert); and the Henri Desgrange prize, which is awarded to the first classified in the highest mountain pass, in this case the Galibier (5,000 euros).
