The measures against Covid are disappearing. One of the latest that has been activated in the Madrid metro is that the doors of the train carriages no longer open by themselves. But you have to press to enter or exit the wagons.

Official sources from Metro de Madrid confirm that it is a measure that has been activated to "gain energy efficiency".

This measure of opening all the doors at each stop was activated as a result of the Covid to avoid contagion and that train travelers will knock on the doors.

The metro spokesman explains that the measure has been reversed to "maintain the air conditioning of the trains and only open the doors through which passengers need to enter or exit and not all". In this way, he continues, "the interior temperature of the wagons is maintained, with which energy efficiency is gained."

After almost three years of pandemic and with the decrease in daily infections and the reduction in deaths, on May 5 the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the end of the global public health emergency due to Covid-19 and as Consequently, some measures have come to an end, such as wearing masks on public transport. For now, its use is only maintained in hospitals, outpatient clinics and pharmacies.
