The mayor of Compromís in Valencia Pere Fuset, acquitted of the work accident at Viveros in 2017

The councilor for Compromís in the Valencia City Council, Pere Fuset, has been acquitted of the case opened for the work accident in the assembly of the stands for the 2017 Viveros concerts, in which a worker died.

This Monday the hearing against Fuset and four other people was scheduled to be held in the Criminal Court number 17 of Valencia for the open procedure after the 2017 Viveros accident.

Upon his arrival at the courts, the mayor, in statements to the media, has insisted on his innocence and has shown himself calm and confident.

Fuset, who at the time of the events held the position of mayor of Festival Culture, was not accused by the Prosecutor's Office, understanding that he was not in charge of carrying out the works nor the promoter, while the victim's family claimed five years in prison for him for a crime against the life and health of workers and a reckless homicide.

The public ministry did accuse the other four people most accused in the procedure, for whom it requested three years in prison.

Finally, an agreement has been reached between the insurers, the private prosecution and the public prosecutor and the councilor has been acquitted, while the other four defendants have been sentenced to one year and three months in prison for a crime against life and health of workers in competition with a crime of reckless homicide.

In addition, the insurers will compensate the victim's family with 220,000 euros, while the four defendants -with the exception of Fuset- will pay another 20,000 euros in total within a maximum period of one year. The defenses have requested that the imprisonment of their clients be suspended and the accusations have not been opposed.

Fuset had to face another judicial proceeding for an alleged division of contracts in the Department of Festival Culture that was finally filed in January of this year when no evidence of crimes was found.

The week before the trial was to take place, the investigating court had to issue two indictments since two of the defendants were unaccounted for.

Finally, the two defendants were located and notified of the dates of the oral hearing. Although one of them requested a postponement of the trial, the court denied the request and upheld the appointment as provided.

With the acquittal, Fuset - who once resigned as head of Festival Culture and spokesperson for Compromís - will have no impediment to go on the coalition lists for next spring's municipal elections.
