The Marquez break up with Alzamora after 18 years

The Márquez brothers, Marc and Àlex, have broken off their professional relationship with Emilio Alzamora (49), who had been their agent for almost two decades, as published by El Periódico de Catalunya and confirmed by this newspaper. The Cervera brothers have put the management of their races in the hands of the Red Bull environment, sponsor of both, according to what they point out from Austria.

The relationship of the former rider from Lleida, 1999 125cc champion, with the Márquez brothers, from Cervera, began in 2001, as Jaume Curcó (49), a member of the Moto Club, director of the El Segre de Rufea circuit, recalled to this newspaper. where the Marquez family attended motocross races on the weekends. He was the one who spoke, who insisted, to Emilio Alzamora that "he had to go see the boy named Marc run." "It was around 2001," when the budding phenomenon was only 8 years old.

Alzamora became Marc's mentor and manager starting in 2004. "In 2004 I met Emilio and joined Monlau Competición, where they have always treated me like a son," 93 explained to this newspaper.

With Alzamora guiding his steps, the boy Marc made the jump to the 125cc Catalan championship with the RACC Impala team -with Pol Espargaró as a teammate-, then to the CEV and finally to the World Championship, in 2011. Later he also supervised Àlex's career , since its inception.

The break between the brothers and Alzamora became effective during the World Cup summer break. At the two races in August, Silverstone (August 7) and Austria (this weekend), the manager no longer attended the grands prix, as he used to do every year.

In fact, during this 2022 they had already been distancing themselves. In January, the two brothers changed their residence from Cervera to Pozuelo de Alarcón (Madrid) -as they argued, to be close to the medical team that treated Marc at the Ruber clinic-, and also as a physical trainer.

Emilio Alzamora, required by this newspaper, did not respond to the request. For his part, Àlex Márquez, from the Austrian GP, limited himself to saying, when asked by Dazn: "I have nothing to say about it."

The reason for the breakup would be the discrepancies in the way of managing the professional careers of the two pilots, at the level of marketing, image and commercial exploitation.
