The law of only yes is yes

At the time of perpetrating this column, the Law for the Comprehensive Guarantee of Sexual Freedom will delay its entry into force until September due to a letter, introduced in the Senate, a fact that modifies a text, as those admitted to sanatoriums well know, that in when they hear funeral parlors they run away.

The popularly known as "law of only yes is yes" is one of those texts a bit blackmailing because to see who dares to object to it and risk accusations of machismo, complicity in rape and retrograde. If it helps with anything, it's welcome, even if you have your skepticism...

The origin of this law? The rape of La Manada in the Sanfermines six years ago, settled with an exemplary sentence and with no pardons in sight, a crime that some, incidentally, took advantage of to destroy a popular festival that revolves around the brave bull (see those that this year they put the bandage before the wound).

The Sanfermines have returned and in a big way, without there having been a single solid complaint of sexual abuse before the justice system thanks to the fact that we all did our part. Pamplona, the first: deployment of media, information points, vigilant attitude and the collective effort that this should not be repeated. Even when a girl asked me for a light in the Plaza del Castillo, I passed her the lighter instead of giving her a light!

Summarizing the law to “only yes is yes” explains its notoriety –we all know what text we are talking about– but, at the same time, it leaves out many people who we already considered sexual crimes to be typified and punished.

The example of these Sanfermines is illustrative: it has not been a new law, but the people of a lifetime who have made an effort so that everyone could drink, drink a lot, dance, dance a lot, and return home calmly at dawn , as it should be.

I don't know what young people will do when it comes to agreeing on sexual relations –the text evokes a commercial transaction–, I have it clear: the usual. That if a caress, a kiss, whatever and a goodbye, how would that say, even if that means skipping the spirit of the law.
