The landing of the PP in Valencia

In a few days, the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo; the mayor of Madrid, José Luís Martínez-Almeida; the PP spokesperson in Congress, Cuca Gamarra and other members of the party leadership. They have navigated through the crowded streets of the city to visit Fallas, they have climbed the municipal balcony to see "mascletaes" and they have shared hours with falleros and falleras, eating chocolate fritters, throwing firecrackers (Almeida did not hurt anyone) or cooking paellas nights, always accompanied by their Valencian hosts: Carlos Mazón and María José Català.

In parallel, no minister of the Government of Pedro Sánchez has visited the city to share a meal and "mascletà" with Ximo Puig from the old Post Office building, recently acquired by the Generalitat Valenciana and located in a privileged place to contemplate this fabulous spectacle. daily fireworks. Sorry, one exception, Diana Morant from Valencia, head of Innovation and Science and former mayor of Gandia.

The contrast is evident. The PP is using all its resources, including the media, to try to recover what the left took from it in 2015, most of the Valencian institutions, including the Generalitat Valenciana and the capital's City Council. They have become aware of all that is at stake on 28M, which goes far beyond the Valencian question, but which requires the Valencian question to pave the way to the presidency of the Government. The Valencian Community is the most valued piece in the political game that will be played in a few weeks. Quite the contrary, the defense of the left is concentrating more and more on the figure of Ximo Puig and on the collaboration of the candidates of his partners, Joan Baldoví for Compromís and Héctor Illueca for Podem.

There aren't many more resources for the PSPV from the parent structure. And surely having them is not a demanded possibility from the leadership of Valencian socialism either. Having or not having Pedro Sánchez is no longer valued as an element that can contribute or subtract from the electoral market. In other words, they don't care. A few days ago the municipal convention of the PSOE in Valencia was announced and few in this party began to shoot rockets, with some exception, from the local PSPV. Confidence in the management of the Botànic to maintain the loyalty of the voters is maintained and the possibility that a sector of the voters of the left to the left of the PSOE will not mobilize will only take away sleep. That is one of the keys to these elections, perhaps the one that can determine the result.

The PP scans the horizon and thinks it sees that victory is near. It is supported by many surveys. But also, in this party, there are prudent ones, who fear that the illusion ends up turning into a mirage, that excessive triumphalism ends up making the troops sleepy at the time of battle and that a mistake, that in politics all the days (there is the vote of no confidence from Vox that irritates Feijóo so much) I ended up giving air to the left at the most inopportune moment. In other words, the landing of the PP does not guarantee success, it could end like the battle of Galipoli (World War I), which was a bloodletting for the allies, and not like the landing in Sicily (World War II), which was calm and fast, a success.
