The investigation indicates that the young Spanish man who died in Ukraine did not die in combat

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the death of the first Spaniard in the Ukraine conflict, the Majorcan Ángel Adrover, from Felanitx, although for the moment the investigation indicates that he did not die in combat, a circumstance that was already being weighed since it became known the news of his death.

Apparently, the young man was in an area of very difficult access, which is complicating the investigation of the circumstances and his repatriation from Ukraine, something that the Ukrainian and Spanish authorities are now working on.

The deceased, a 31-year-old man, traveled to Ukraine last March to participate in the war. As soon as the death was known, the Spanish Embassy was immediately informed, which has assumed the management of this matter.

The Ministry has already contacted the family to offer them the necessary care, as well as to inform them of the repatriation of the body, which will take place in the coming days. The young man traveled from Mallorca to the Netherlands before traveling to the Ukraine and, once in the invaded country, he received military training.

The young man's family was unaware that he had enlisted in combat and thought that he had traveled to Ukraine as a volunteer for an NGO, according to his mother, Dolores Martínez, in Ultima Hora. She affirms that the young man told her that he was going to Ukraine as a volunteer to carry out humanitarian work.

The mother explains that a Ukrainian army colonel sent her a message on Whatsapp detailing that the deceased, a graduate in Telecommunications Engineering, collaborated with the Army in the telecommunications area in Lviv before entering combat.

In April, the provisional number of Spaniards who had joined the Foreign Legion fighting in the Ukrainian ranks against Russia was made public: a total of 12 combatants. All of them, according to published information, were being monitored by the Defense Ministry.

On the other hand, Spanish legislation is very permissive with this type of volunteering, as was evident when the National High Court closed the case of extreme left-wing fighters who joined the pro-Russian ranks in Donbass back in 2015.
