The historic living nativity scene of Corbera de Llobregat, the first to be performed in Catalonia in 1962, will be held again this year, from December 3 to January 15, after two years suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. covid.

According to David Esquirol, president of the Pessebre Vivent Amics de Corbera association, the entity that organizes it, in the 48 performances scheduled for this season, in which 250 volunteers will participate, it is expected to exceed one million accumulated visitors since it began in 1962.

In 2019, 32,005 people visited it, and the total number of visitors closed at 991,568, so Esquirol expects to exceed one million accumulated visitors this year.

The Corbera nativity scene is represented in the natural space of Penya del Corb, where visitors can enter the nativity scene to see all the scenes recreated by volunteers, most of whom are residents of the town, in an enclave of more than 14,000 square meters and 700 meters long, with around fifteen scenic paintings, such as the annunciation, the shepherds, life in Nazareth or scenes of crafts.

It is the most visited nativity scene in Catalonia and this year it will celebrate its 59th season, with performances every weekend and on the eve of public holidays, from next Saturday to Sunday, January 15, 2023.

"We are very excited to be able to exceed the symbolic figure of one million visitors to the Corbera Living Nativity Scene who, generation after generation, hold an annual appointment, interrupted for two years by the covid," said Esquirol.

The president of the organizing entity has also highlighted "the effort of all the volunteers who have selflessly participated during all these 59 seasons" of the living nativity scene, in whose organization 240,000 euros have been spent this year.

"We are very proud to be able to continue promoting popular and traditional Catalan culture, and we look forward to opening doors again, so that everyone continues to enjoy this endearing and visited activity on Christmas dates," Esquirol has settled.

The entrance price to the living nativity scene, which can be purchased exclusively on the website pessebrecorbera.cat, is 15 euros for adults, 10 euros for children under 14, young people with a youth card and over 65s, and free for children and girls up to 6 years old.

The work of the association that organizes this living nativity scene has been recognized with the gold medal for Cultural Merit, in 1976; the Creu de Sant Jordi, in 1992; and the inclusion of the Living Nativity Scene in the census of tourist interest in the Generalitat, in 2010.
