Foods that become famous inside and outside the borders of a territory. It happens with pizza, sushi or New York hot dog, consumed everywhere. Now, a Spanish roll aspires to compete with the hot dog for first place as the most famous sandwich in the world. "We want the Tomasón to become the new hot dog and to be available all over the planet," proclaims Enrique Tomás, founder and CEO of the company of the same name.
The sandwich is made up of a brioche bread (tender and slightly sweet) that emulates the appearance of the classic dog and ham shavings, the same ones with which Nandu Jubany prepares his croquettes, Tomás presumes. Soon, various sauces will be available to dress the sandwich, in true street food style, although it may generate controversy among locals.
The ham businessman is continuously exploring new business opportunities and it seems that he has found an opportunity in vending that he intends to turn into a new strategic sales channel. He landed in this sector at the beginning of the year, with the award of the contract to operate all the vending machines at the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport. For now, 30 of the 170 machines offer Tomasón, designed for tasting in busy transit areas, in addition to other brand products. The company's goal is to sell 3,000 ham sandwiches a day.
This roll has a freshness duration of more than 72 hours, although due to the proximity to the production centers, they will be replaced every 4 hours to guarantee "maximum freshness and a crunchy texture."
The start-up of the new "dispensing stores" GO!urmet by Enrique Tomás will have an investment of more than 26 million euros in the next 5 years that the bidding contract lasts in El Prat, and a turnover of 10 is expected. million annually, 51% of which will go to Aena by virtue of the agreement.
"The starting point is the Barcelona airport", but the next step will be to take this model to other airports and transport interchanges, the metro, on board planes, large companies, football stadiums..., to "everyone" .
