The Government urges the conservative sector of the CGPJ to appoint its magistrate for the TC: "We are already late"

Once the negotiation to renew the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) was dynamited by the Popular Party, despite the fact that it has already accumulated almost four years with the mandate expired, the Government puts all the focus of its political denunciation on the constitutional breach that it attributes Alberto Núñez Feijóo. But he trusts that, at least, this new break in the talks with the main opposition party will serve to accelerate the appointments also pending in the Constitutional Court (TC).

The Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, has urged this Thursday the conservative sector of the CGPJ to put on the table and its proposal to join the court of constitutional guarantees. The proposal of the progressive sector of the governing body of the judges, which is Juan Manuel Bandrés, would complete the list of two magistrates of the TC that corresponds to appoint the CGPJ. And, after this movement, the Executive would designate the other two magistrates that it is responsible for proposing, without having to undertake this operation alone, to which it would be forced in the event that the conservative sector insisted on keeping the renewal of the CT.

Bolaños has celebrated that some meetings have already taken place within the CGPJ to resume negotiations to try to unblock the renewal of the TC. “I want to remind you that since July, the General Council of the Judiciary can already appoint two magistrates of the Constitutional Court. On September 13, the deadline for them to appoint their two magistrates of the TC ended, with which we are already late”, the minister warned.

"I want to ask the members of the CGPJ, especially those who have been most reluctant, the same thing that any judge asks citizens: to comply with the law, to do so as soon as possible and that we begin to resolve this mess that has been caused by the lack of personality and leadership of Feijóo”, Bolaños has summoned the conservative sector of the governing body of the judges.

The Minister of the Presidency, in any case, has insisted on warning that Feijóo "not only broke an agreement that was already made, not only violates the law and violates the Constitution, but also, with the rupture of the agreement on the General Council What the Judicial Power has done is also attack the constitutional pact, the one that asks for a great consensus to agree on the government of the judges.” Therefore, the Minister of the Presidency has assured that in Feijóo there is "no trace of constitutionalism, no trace of a statesman, no trace of a responsible person".

"That's how Feijóo is doing and that's how it's going to go in the coming weeks and in the coming months," Bolaños settled. At the same time, the PSOE continues to explicitly point to the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and the journalist Federico Jiménez Losantos, as those responsible for having doubled Feijóo's pulse to break his judicial agreement with the Government. And they insist on launching a question on the fly: “Who is in charge in the PP?”.
