The Government signs the former deputy of the CUP Mireia Boya

The former CUP deputy and environmentalist Mireia Boya will become, in the coming weeks, the general director of Environmental Quality and Climate Change of the Generalitat de Catalunya, within the Department of Climate Action led by Teresa Jordà.

As Nació Digital has advanced and La Vanguardia has confirmed in Government sources, Mireia Boya will take over from Marc Sanglas, who a few days ago was appointed Secretary of Mobility and Logistics of the Department of Territory, now headed by Juli Fernández.

The incorporation of the former anti-capitalist deputy comes after the entry into the Government of three councilors -after the departure of Junts- coming from political spaces different from those of ERC: Carles Campuzano assumed Social Rights (exCDC), Joaquim Nadal headed Research and Universities ( exPSC) and Gemma Ubasart leads Justice, Rights and Memory. (exPodemos)

Mireia Boya served as deputy of the CUP for Lleida and president of the parliamentary group between 2016 and 2017, the legislature of the most critical moments of the procés and that ended with the application of article 155. The new member of Acció Climàtica dropped out of the party last June after denouncing, two years ago, having been the victim of psychological abuse by another member of the CUP leadership. In a statement, Boya criticized the management of the formation of the case and regretted that the CUP was not "courageous enough to take a step forward in repairing masclista violence by putting women at the center of everything."

In 2020, she was tried by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia for disobedience together with the members of the Parliamentary Bureau of the legislature between 2015 and 2017. Finally, she was acquitted because, according to the Court, she was not warned by the TC nor did she have a position with intervention capacity that was compatible with the crime of disobedience. The rest of the defendants were sentenced to 20 months of disqualification.

Boya has a degree in Environmental Sciences from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2002) and a doctorate in land management and planning from the University of Montreal.
