The Government replies to the PP that the social majority of Spain was already heard “very emphatically” on 23-J

“We listened to the social majority of Spain, very emphatically, at the polls on July 23,” replied the spokesperson for the acting Government, the socialist Isabel Rodríguez, to minimize the effects of the protest that the Popular Party held. this past Sunday in Madrid. These last general elections not only added a million more votes to Pedro Sánchez, compared to 2019, but also drew a new parliamentary arithmetic in Congress that this week will reject, as planned, the investiture of Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

After the meeting of the Council of Ministers held this Monday, since Feijóo's investiture debate begins tomorrow, Isabel Rodríguez has conveyed from the Moncloa "the respect" of the Government to the "demonstrations, mobilizations or party events" of the PP. But she has insisted that “what is relevant” is the investiture debate that Feijóo will face starting this Tuesday. In a plenary session of Congress, he warned, "where the important figure is not 30,000, 40,000 or 60,000", in reference to the supporters who attended the PP call in Madrid on Sunday, "but rather having been able to forge a parliamentary majority that would give viability to that investiture, that is, more than 175 seats.” “And today, Feijóo, who is the candidate for that investiture, only has 172,” she recalled.

The minister spokesperson has thus assured that the leader of the PP “is in the place where he started”, without having managed to add more support for his investiture than he already had after the scrutiny of the polls on July 23 and the commissioning of the King. And she has reiterated that what the Executive wants is for “Spain to stop wasting time and for us to have a fully functioning Government as soon as possible.”

Isabel Rodríguez has criticized that "a candidate who is presented with the same seats that he had on the first day he submitted to this investiture and was commissioned by the King, intends to talk about other matters", in reference to the amnesty for those accused of the process against which PP supporters demonstrated. “But the only thing he would have to talk to us about is his country project, which given that he has not been able to present it in the last 30 days, he does not have it; or be able to present a sufficient majority, which he does not have either,” she highlighted.

The Government, however, continues without revealing whether Pedro Sánchez will intervene tomorrow in the investiture debate of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and insists on wanting to reserve all the protagonism for the leader of the PP, who is the candidate. “After this month, Feijóo would like to close his eyes and have it dawn on September 30,” said the spokesperson for the acting Executive. “But he has an important task,” he insisted, he has to fulfill the King's mandate, “and he has to certify, to see if he is once and for all aware, that he does not have a sufficient majority to govern this country.” .

“This country expressed itself at the polls, two months ago, and with absolute clarity sent a very clear message, and that is that Spain did not want an alliance of the PP with Vox,” the minister spokesperson highlighted. After the investiture debate that Feijóo will undergo this week, Isabel Rodríguez has trusted that the leader of the PP “is aware that this is what happened on July 23.”

Asked if the Government continues to defend that Carles Puigdemont must be held accountable before Spanish justice, the minister spokesperson sent “a message to Spanish citizens of tranquility and full confidence in democratic institutions”, before the investiture debate. "We see how the discourse of fear and hate is reborn again, we have been listening to this call for many years that the wolf is coming and that Spain is breaking up," she warned. Isabel Rodríguez has assured that these messages always appear when the PP is in opposition. “The reality is that under progressive governments there is greater tranquility, greater cohesion and greater unity in Spain,” she concluded.
