The Government denounces the maximum seriousness of political corruption in the Catalonia operation

"We are facing one of the most serious cases of political corruption of Spanish democracy," highlighted the government spokesperson, the socialist Isabel Rodríguez, in light of the new revelations that are becoming known about the so-called Operation Catalonia that was already launched in in 2012 the then Minister of the Interior, Jorge Fernández Díaz, to persecute Catalan political leaders during the mandates of Mariano Rajoy.

The Executive has thus wanted to underline the seriousness of these events, since the minister spokesperson has emphasized that, according to the ongoing judicial investigations, in the Catalonia operation "the means and security mechanisms of the State were used to, in First, cover up the corruption of the party that was in government at the time, the Popular Party, and then also attack political opponents.”

At the same time that the Board of the Congress of Deputies has reactivated this Tuesday the commission of investigation of the Catalonia operation, the Government spokesperson has recalled that the Prosecutor's Office has also claimed up to 15 years in prison for the former minister Fernández Díaz, in this case for the Kitchen operation, while "today he still remains in the ranks of the PP". Not in vain, in the PSOE they oppose the withering reaction of Pedro Sánchez to expel Juan Bernardo Fuentes Curbelo from the party and withdraw the seat, for the so-called Mediator case, with the attitude of Alberto Núñez Feijóo before other cases of alleged corruption that dot the PP, like that of former minister Fernández Díaz: "He has not moved a finger", they warn about the PP leader.

Minister Isabel Rodríguez has shown this Tuesday from Moncloa her "absolute condemnation and forceful rejection" of the Catalonia operation. "This type of attitude is not admissible, it damages the Spanish State and it damages our democracy." Therefore, the executive spokesperson has insisted on denouncing the PP's attitude of looking the other way. "It is not understood that the main opposition party, today as yesterday, continues to support this type of behavior and has not expressed a reaction to it, to such an extent that it maintains the militancy among its ranks of those who carried out these events that are of absolute seriousness, insofar as they damage the structure of the State and the bodies and security forces of the State”, he highlighted.

The spokesperson for the Executive, in any case, has shown her "absolute confidence in justice and in the judicial process" opened by a Madrid court on the Catalonia operation, and has expressed her "respect for the parties who initiate their legal actions in this moment". It should be remembered that, in addition to the complaint filed in the first instance by the former president of Barça, Sandro Rosell, already admitted for processing by the judge, the former Minister of Economy of the Generalitat Jaume Giró also registered another complaint last Monday for the Catalonia operation.
