The Government demands from Feijóo the name of its candidates and he maintains his conditions

After the President of the General Council of the Judiciary and the Supreme Court, Carlos Lesmes, has demanded that the President of the Government and the leader of the main opposition party meet urgently to unblock the "unsustainable" situation that the governing body of judges with almost four years of expired mandate and has threatened to resign if the Council is not renewed or its full powers to make appointments are returned, the Government has asked Alberto Núñez Feijóo to propose "tomorrow the names (which proposes their party) to renew the CGPJ”. For his part, the president of the PP has been willing to negotiate the renewal of the body if Pedro Sánchez calls him and accepts his conditions.

After the opening ceremony of the judicial year, in which Lesmes reproached the politicians for their partisan attitude before the King, Feijóo has indicated in an informal conversation with journalists that he is willing to meet if Sánchez calls him and agrees to apply the requirements he set the PP to, in his opinion, strengthen independence and prevent revolving doors between politics and justice.

Specifically, the leader of the PP has stressed that his party now accepts not to reform the model of election of the Council, but calls for measures such as the members of the CGPJ and the attorney general not having held a political position in the last five years or that all the high positions of the judicial career are elected by three fifths. He has also asked Sánchez to reverse the emptying of the powers of the CGPJ and has denounced the legal modification for interventionism that forces the members of the CGPJ to appoint two magistrates to the Constitutional Court before September 13.

For her part, the Minister of Justice, Pilar Llop, also after the ecto has demanded that Feijóo propose "tomorrow the names (proposed by his party) to renew the CGPJ" and directly blamed the popular for the threat of resignation of Lesmes, the Minister of Justice made statements to journalists in which she demanded from the PP the names of her candidates and an agreement "without conditions" to renew the members of the Council.

Llop has blamed the PP for the responsibility for the blockade and has insisted that if Feijóo does not put the names he proposes on the table, "the situation would lead President Lesmes to resign." A situation that he hopes will not occur, but that would be solely attributable to the "whim, denial and obstructionism" of the PP.
