The Government brings before the Prosecutor's Office the cyber attack on the Generalitat of 9-N

The Government has submitted a letter to the General Prosecutor of Catalonia in relation to the information about the cyberattack suffered by the Generalitat in November 2014 on the occasion of 9-N, a computer attack that affected various services of the Catalan administration outside of the non-binding consultation.

At first, the Executive of Pere Aragonès had assured that they would study what legal actions they could take when it emerged from the information of the Forbidden Stories journalistic consortium that the Israeli businessman and contractor Tal Hanan was behind the action. He is an ex-military man who operates under the pseudonym 'Jorge'.

From the Government, through a letter from the Minister of the Presidency, Laura Vilagrà, the public prosecutor is urged "to investigate and determine the criminal responsibilities of the author, with name and surname, or of the authors of these facts", he revealed yesterday the spokesperson, Patrícia Plaja, who also remarked that once the criminal responsibilities are clarified, "civil responsibilities" will have to be assumed.

According to investigations by the media consortium, Hanan, a former deputy commander of the Israeli army linked to the British consultancy Cambridge Analytica, exhibited last July as a success story in meetings with potential clients the largest cyberattack the Generalitat has suffered. In 2014 it was one of the ten most powerful in the world and the strongest that had been registered in Spain up to that date.

On the other hand, the groups of Junts per Catalunya and Esquerra registered in the Congress of Deputies and in the Senate a battery of questions to the central government about the cyberattack and the links of the Hanan company, the security and defense firm DemoManInternational Ltd. with the State Administration. In addition, JxCat also intends to address this matter in the European Parliament.
