The Generalitat is deploying all its powers in matters of foreign action. The Government led by Pere Aragonès approved on October 10 in the Executive Council the draft law to create the external action body and European Union of the Generalitat of Catalonia, which will now have to be processed in the Parliament of Catalonia.
The creation of this new body of personnel specialized in foreign action and the European Union will make it possible to take a leap forward and further strengthen the projection of Catalonia in the world and the Government's relations with other executives and international organizations, following the useful objectives , credibility and reputation defined by the Department of Foreign Affairs and European Union. The Generalitat has a long history in the development of Catalan foreign action, which is a priority of the Government, and with the foreign action body and the European Union it takes another step in the deployment of its powers.
The Catalan administration will now have the tools to define the professional requirements that differentiate the personnel in charge of implementing the Government's foreign action. In this way, the added value of specialization in this field can be taken into account, which requires very specific professional profiles such as, for example, mastery of languages or academic and professional experience in international relations.
The initiative approved by the Government will make it possible to retain the existing talent in the administration in the field of international relations and share it, even more, between the departments of the Generalitat. The body will have ramifications throughout the Government, because in the face of current global challenges, with a strong local impact, it is essential to have an international perspective in all public policies.
Furthermore, the incorporation of expert personnel in various Government departments will reinforce the transversal and cohesive vision of Catalan foreign action, and will ensure a greater return of the Government's public policies to the country and citizens.
The foreign action body and the European Union will also make it possible to attract talent specialized in international relations from outside the Catalan administration. That of those people who until now did not find a job fit in the Generalitat, and who will now have the possibility of joining a much more specific group, which will take into account academic and professional experience in international relations.
With the approval of the draft bill by the Government, the bill is now being processed in Parliament.
In the process of preparing the draft law for the body of foreign action and the European Union, the Government has held conversations with the different unions in the field of public service, the College of Professionals of Political Science and Sociology of Catalonia ( Colpis), the staff of the Department of Foreign Affairs and the European Union, as well as the rest of the departments of the Generalitat, and various parliamentary groups. "We appeal to the maximum support of the Parliament, recovering the spirit that allowed the approval of the foreign action law." The body will have a positive impact on the Government, but also on the entire Catalan society, accompanying it in its opening to the world," he highlighted.
