The Government of the Generalitat has appointed the councilor of ERC in Barcelona Miquel Puig i Raposo, secretary of Economic Affairs and European Funds dependent on the Department of Economy led by the republican Natàlia Mas.

The Government appoints Miquel Puig secretary of Economic Affairs and European Funds

The Government of the Generalitat has appointed the councilor of ERC in Barcelona Miquel Puig i Raposo, secretary of Economic Affairs and European Funds dependent on the Department of Economy led by the republican Natàlia Mas.

Born in Tarragona (Tarragonès) in 1954, Puig holds a doctorate in Economics from the University of Barcelona (UB) and has been full professor of Economic Theory at the UB and associate professor of Infrastructure Markets at the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF).

He was the coordinator of the Comitè Assesor Catalunya-Next Generation EU (Conext CAT-EU), a collegiate body that the Generalitat created in October 2020 to identify the tractor projects necessary to catalyze changes in the Catalan economy, within the framework of the Next Generation EU.

He has held several positions in the Generalitat: general director of Industrial Safety and Quality, general director of Industry and secretary of the Department (1984-1998) and Commissioner for the Information Society (1997-1999). He was the first president of the Telecommunications and Information Technologies Center (CTTI) and also of the public company Idiada.

Between 2000 and 2002, he held the position of general director of the Catalan Audiovisual Media Corporation (CCMA).

From 2002 to 2012 he has been an independent consultant, except for a three-year break in which he was CEO of Abertis Airports (2004-2007). Subsequently, he has been general director of the Consorci de Serveis Universitaris de Catalunya (CSUC), from 2013 to the present.

Since 2019 he has been a councilor of the Barcelona City Council for Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya, member of the Economy and Finance Committee and councilor of Barcelona Municipal Services, SA. Previously, he was a councilor of the Falset City Council (2015-2019), representative of the independent Independents for Falset candidacy.
