The Generalitat will not indemnify the four Mossos d'Esquadra agents who killed the perpetrators of the attacks on August 17, 2017 in Barcelona and Cambrils. The Minister of the Interior, Joan Ignasi Elena, has rejected this Friday that it is the Catalan administration that should do it and has indicated that it is something that corresponds to the central government.

In an interview in Ser Catalunya, the head of the Interior has assured that "certain amounts" correspond to the agents, although he has considered that it is the central administration that must provide them because it is a matter related to terrorism.

The four Catalan police officers sued the Ministry of the Interior a few months ago to claim compensation of 1.2 million euros in total for the damages they suffered during the act of duty.

The lawyer for the Uspac de los Mossos union, José Antonio Bitos, explained when the complaint came to light that "the four agents neutralized the terrorist cell and in this action they were injured to various degrees."

As a result of these events, the agents suffered clinical pictures of an acute reaction to stress and sequelae consistent with post-traumatic stress, remaining temporarily disabled, and the Ministry of the Interior has recognized them as victims of terrorism. Likewise, the National Institute of Social Security has given total permanent disability for his habitual profession to the agent who killed four of the terrorists.

The claim was first filed in administrative proceedings on December 10, but the Government ignored it and after the three-month deadline and after the "negative silence", they decided to go to court.
