Catalonia wants to value its cinema. For this reason, the Ministry of Culture of the Generalitat has announced that it will allocate 36.9 million euros to the Catalan audiovisual sector this year.
This was announced by the head of the department, Natàlia Garriga, at the event 'Fem un gir per l'audiovisual en català' in Barcelona. she arguing that this increase occurs because the lines of aid to the sector have grown from 17.5 million in 2021 to 25.5 million this year.
Added to these 25.5 million are "7.5 million from what is known as the 'fondillo' of the State Government, previously invested here, in audiovisual products made in the Catalan language", 2.9 million in aid for movie theaters in the framework of European funds and 1 million in aid to compensate for the losses of the rooms due to the forced closure due to the coronavirus.
The act has also exposed the new lines promoted by the department, which in turn has pointed out that one of its priorities is "to bet on the audiovisual in Catalan to strengthen the entire audiovisual sector in the country".
In this sense, Garriga has pointed out that Catalonia "is a land of the audiovisual" and that the Government sees it as a strategic area, so he emphasizes that the department is working long-term on projects such as the hub Catalunya Media City, in the Three Chimneys of Sant Adrià de Besòs (Barcelona).
He explained that the Ministry will increase the line of series in Catalan from 2.8 million to 6 million euros, and that the call for film production has a planned allocation of 12.2 million euros.
Garriga has also announced the creation of the Servei de Foment del Català a l'Audiovisual, within the Secretariat of Language Policy, with the aim of strengthening public policies related to language policy in the audiovisual.
The functions will be to promote the offer of products and services in the audiovisual field; proposing and promoting initiatives to promote the use and consumption of Catalan; ensure the linguistic quality of audiovisual products in Catalan, and propose, promote and coordinate initiatives for the territorialization of the exhibition of cinema in Catalan, among others.
