The Generalitat doubles aid to cooperatives with 28 million euros

The Catalan cooperative sector will receive a boost thanks to the subsidies approved this morning by the Generalitat, which doubles the annual budget with aid of up to 28 million euros, a historical record.

The Minister of Business and Work, Roger Torrent, has announced aid to 164 cooperatives, out of a total of 200 that will be submitted to the call for Unique Projects. The Generalitat has selected transversal projects, with an impact in the social, educational and green energy fields.

In particular, three large intercooperative initiatives stand out, led by Suara, Som Energia and Abacus, which have raised a total of 7.8 million euros. "We want to promote projects that encourage collaboration between entities in the sector, one of the most deeply rooted in Europe," sources from the ministry have pointed out, assuring that Catalonia exceeds 5,000 cooperatives in total.

The subsidies come from the Generalitat's own budget, without any support from the European Next Generation funds. 80% will be executed this year and 20% within 12 months, upon completion of the projects.
