The fire of a truck forces to cut the AP-7 northbound in Girona

The fire in a truck, loaded with 20 tons of resin, forced to cut the AP-7 in both directions of travel. The vehicle has burned completely at the height of Vilobí d'Onyar (Selva). The Bombers received the notice at 1:58 p.m. The fire has caused a fire on the side of the highway that the operatives have already put out.

Nine land crews and two helicopters traveled to the scene of the events, in addition to the chemical risk truck from the Maçanet de la Selva park. The event has not caused any injuries but requires detours at exit 9 to Maçanet de la Selva, towards the C-35 and A-2. For this reason, the Servei Català Trànsit (SCT) recommends drivers to avoid this road and use the C-32.

The Firefighters have activated the two helicopters to put out the fire adjacent to the highway, which was terminated at 2:50 p.m. The fire has forced the road to be cut, although in the south direction it has already been reopened, and causes a 20-kilometer queue, according to the SCT.

After 2:30 p.m., Civil Protection has activated the alert phase of the TRANSCAT plan due to the truck fire. Hours later, at 6:00 p.m., the alert phase has been deactivated and has gone down to pre-alert, which is still active as the road is still cut off and has been damaged.

On the other hand, Trànsit foresees a "high mobility" weekend for the second Easter and the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Montmeló, a coincidence that can cause a complicated road situation, especially on the AP-7.

The forecast is that 470,000 vehicles will leave the Barcelona metropolitan area between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning and that some 280,000 will return on Monday. Trànsit will apply special measures for this type of operation plus some new ones.

The director of the SCT, Ramon Lamiel, has highlighted the high mobility that is expected for this long weekend, with Monday as a local holiday in some forty towns, especially in the Barcelona metropolitan area.

It is expected that the destinations towards the coast will be the ones that register the greatest influx of vehicles. The main road damage will take place on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning and on Sunday and Monday afternoon when they return. Detentions are also expected, especially on the AP-7 on Sunday morning due to high mobility and the coincidence with the Grand Prix.

The AP-7 in the central section of access to the Montmeló circuit and also in the northern section, from Sant Celoni in La Roca del Vallès, and south in Vilafranca del Penedès will be able to concentrate the main mobility problems. Heavy traffic is expected on access roads to coastal towns such as the N-340 in El Vendrell and Altafulla, the N-II in Tordera and the Costa Brava on the C-31 in Santa Cristina d'Aro and the C- 65 in Llagostera.

The Servei Català de Trànsit recommends avoiding driving on the AP-7 during peak hours and taking advantage of off-peak hours. On Sunday, the hours in which the greatest public attendance at the venue is expected is between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., in the starting strip.

"It is very important to schedule the departure and return and find out about the state of traffic. We also recommend looking for alternative routes when possible, such as the C-32 north", Lamiel stressed, from the Road Information Center of Catalonia.

To avoid congestion, the SCT will deploy a package of measures, of which the extension of the continuous line by some 800 meters between the AP-7 and the C-33 in Parets del Vallès stands out. This is a permanent measure, but one that Trànsit wanted to coincide with this weekend and does not rule out extending this prohibition for more meters so that the traffic on both roads does not mix.
