The FIA reverses and annuls the sanction against Fernando Alonso for going without a rear-view mirror

Fernando Alonso recovers his seventh position in the last United States Grand Prix. The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has rectified and has removed the sanction imposed for driving without a rearview mirror in the last laps of the Circuit of the Americas test.

At the end of the appointment, the FIA accepted the claim of the Haas team and imposed a 30-second penalty on Alonso. Penalty with which he lost eight positions and was, consequently, out of the points zone after a meritorious race in which he managed to come back after starting 14th and suffering a spectacular crash with Lance Stroll.

On lap 22, Alonso's future teammate at Aston Martin touched the Spaniard's car with his car, which collided with one of the safety barriers, after having put himself on two wheels. Alonso entered the pits, changed tires, made adjustments and finished seventh after staging a spectacular comeback that would later be marred by Haas' claim, which came later than scheduled.

In fact, this Thursday Alonso was already confident that the sanction would fall and he would recover his position: "It is not possible to accept Haas's claim 24 minutes later, it would be a bad precedent," he argued from Mexico.

With the addition of restoring his seventh place, Alonso has 71 points in the World Championship and, although he is still in ninth place, he is closer to his teammate, Frenchman Esteban Ocon.

The rectification of the FIA in favor of Alonso reaches the Asturian driver the same day that training begins at the Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome for the Mexican GP, which precisely a few hours ago received confirmation that he will continue to be part of the F1 World Championship until 2025.

The Mexican GP will be run surrounded by expectations due to the possibility that the Dutchman from Red Bull, Max Verstappen, with the world title assured, could become the first driver with 14 victories in one season.

There is also interest in the dispute for second place in the classification between the local hero, the Mexican Sergio Checo Pérez and the Monegasque Charles Leclerc, from Ferrari, who has two more points than the Red Bull rider.
