The annual congress of the family business has started this morning in Cáceres with a call for companies to gain size "to be able to tackle all the challenges of the world with solvency". This was said by the new president of the Family Business Institute (IEF), Andrés Sendagorta, at the opening ceremony of the XXV Congress, which will continue until tomorrow, Tuesday.

At an annual meeting that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will not attend for another year, Sendagorta has claimed that "we would like our public institutions" to feel proud of the role played by family businesses. The Congress is attended by several hundred businessmen from all over Spain.

The new president of the family businessmen wanted to highlight the role they play within the Spanish tax system at a time when the Government has just announced a new tax on large fortunes. Sendagorta has pointed out the contribution of the most important companies in the country: "These hundred companies pay more than 3,000 million euros in Corporate Tax and some 5,200 million in social contributions".

Regarding the current context, in a survey conducted interactively among the attendees, 58% of businessmen foresee a fragile growth of the economy without net job creation.

The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Guillermo Fernández Vara, also participated in the opening ceremony, highlighting that the autonomous community is no longer a receiving territory for solidarity aid from the rest of Spain.

The opening ceremony was closed by King Felipe who in a speech highlighted that "the Spanish economy has improved its competitiveness" and added the importance of "the values of the family business" as an intangible asset of enormous importance".
