The Tenerife judge investigating the 'Mediator case', of corruption, has sent a part of the investigation to the European Prosecutor's Office to investigate whether there was a fraudulent use of public funds in the Gar-Si Sahel project by the former general of the Civil Guard Francisco Espinosa Navas.
The instructor thus accepts the claim of the Prosecutor's Office, since the aforementioned project is financed by the European Commission and managed by the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP), for which the former general, the only one investigated in the cause that is currently in pretrial detention.
In an order notified today, the instructor agrees to "make available" to the European Prosecutor's Office the proceedings and to the general himself, agreeing that the Court continue with the rest of the case, which mainly affects the already former socialist deputy Juan Bernardo Fuentes Curbelo, dismissed after being arrested in February following a police investigation that uncovered the collection of bribes and payments at lunches, dinners and parties in exchange for promises to businessmen from the Canary Islands to favor efforts in public administrations.
Thus, the European Prosecutor's Office becomes not only the body that investigates the civil guard, but also the competent authority to decide on his personal situation, that is, to keep him or not in the current situation of preventive detention.
The actions sent to the Community Office of the Public Ministry also refer to the participation of the businessman José S.E. in alleged criminal activities related to these community fund contracts. The court, warns the order, continues with the knowledge of the rest of the cause.
