The electoral advance displaces the parties, without time to digest the results

The movements in the Catalan parties have not been long in coming after Pedro Sánchez's script turn to the punishment that the PSOE received at the polls. Some have not even had time to analyze the electoral results and are already forced to choose a head of the list for the general elections, scheduled for July 23.

They will have to do it before June 21, less than a month in which they will have to make a clean sweep of the results obtained, look for new strategies for those who have received an electoral uproar in the municipal elections and choose a candidate, either through a primary or finger process. They are officially back in the electoral campaign. Displaced, but in campaign.

The most satisfied with the advance were yesterday the Socialists. The results have accompanied them. They are the party with the most votes and they regain victory in municipal elections like the one in 2007, while they have managed to maintain hegemony in the metropolitan environment that Esquerra disputed with them. They are in excellent condition for the new appointment with the polls, perhaps with an eye on another electoral advance for next year, that of the Catalan elections. However, Illa ruled out a possible motion of no confidence in the Government of Pere Aragonès.

The Socialists maintain the difficult negotiations to form a government in Barcelona, which have complicated the aspirations of Jaume Collboni for the imminent electoral appointment. It is the only Catalan capital that the PSC is missing to make a complete in Catalonia.

Salvador Illa praised Sánchez's decision yesterday and described it as "brave and deeply democratic." Meritxell Batet is proposed as the head of the list as it did in 2019. They consider that there is no time to hold primaries with guarantees.

Also in ERC they are clear about their commitment to the generals. Yesterday Oriol Junqueras anointed Gabriel Rufián as the best candidate, despite the meager results obtained in Sant Coloma de Gramenet, where Núria Parlón has once again reissued the absolute majority. "The best possible candidate in the defense of Catalonia and his interests is Gabriel Rufián," he said.

After going down to third force in the municipal elections – they have lost 300,000 votes compared to 2019 –, the Republicans had time to take stock of the electoral setback. Junqueras, in this sense, promised to "listen" to those who have voted for them on other occasions and have abstained on this one. The demobilization of the independence vote has penalized the Republicans, although yesterday, initially, they ruled out that the agreements with the Socialists were the reason for the riot at the polls.

In Junts the victory of Trias has given wings to the most moderate sector of the formation. They are the second force in Catalonia and plan to hold primaries to choose the head of the general list. However, the tranquility of the results of the former Barcelona mayor can be an ephemeral balm and face the different sectors of Junts again, in a week in which the JEC makes a definitive decision for the future of Laura Borràs.

In a tweet, former president Carles Puigdemont opened Pandora's box and showed before anyone else his clear preference and confidence in the current spokesperson in the party's Congress, Míriam Nogueras, a person he trusts. An attempt to dismantle any other candidacy that arose to dispute the seat in Congress. However, he did not get the expected result. A few hours later, in the party executive, the ex-minister Jaume Giró announced that he would appear in the primaries to dispute the position of Nogueras.

This will not be the only fight that Junts will have to fight. In the Congress of Deputies, the PDECat maintains four deputies after the split with the post-convergent groups. At the moment, they maintain the intention of running in the general elections. They consider that, despite the takeover bid launched by Junts in the municipal elections, the results have not been entirely bad, reaching almost 200 councilors and gaining twelve mayoralties.

For the common people, the advance can be a shock to unite the confluences of the left that have sunk in the elections. They have linked their future to that of Yolanda Díaz and need the encouragement of the unit to recover lost ground. They still do not have a candidate, it must be decided in the coming days and what ends up happening in Barcelona, and after losing the mayoralty, the figure of Ada Colau, who in the beginning already aspired to be a deputy in Madrid, may be key.
