The Easyjet strike causes 16 cancellations in Barcelona and Mallorca this Friday

The new EasyJet pilot strike day has caused this Friday the cancellation, until 6:00 p.m., of 6 flights at El Prat-Barcelona airport, as well as another ten at Palma de Mallorca.

As reported this Friday by the Sepla pilots' union, the canceled flights had as their origin or destination Geneva, Milan, Paris, London, Berlin or Basel.

The 16 cancellations this Friday are added to the 36 registered in the first stoppage period initiated by the pilots, which lasted from August 12 to 14.

EsayJet pilots claim to recover their salaries from before the pandemic, once the company already operates with flight occupancy levels similar to those before covid-19.

In addition, they protest because, after six months of negotiating the second collective agreement, the company has rejected the three proposals that the union has presented for the recovery of working conditions and they have not had any contact for two weeks.

The commander and spokesman for Sepla at EasyJet, Martijn Tros, has lamented in statements to journalists that it has not been possible so far to approach positions with the airline's management and has urged the company to react to avoid further strikes.

Tros has explained that they have denounced before the National High Court the improper use that, in his opinion, the company has made of the minimum services, which makes it difficult to exercise the right to strike.

According to the trade unionist, the minimum services have been 61% at the Barcelona base, 60% at Malaga and 57% at Palma de Mallorca.

In addition, the union has taken other decisions of the airline to labor inspection, such as episodes of alleged "intimidation and pressure" on pilots from Barcelona, Palma and Malaga and the use of foreign personnel to command the ships from the Spanish bases.

“We are not asking for a salary increase, but to go back to what we had before the covid and a supplement for pilots on seasonal bases, who when winter comes are left without unemployment,” he said.

After the first period of strikes, new stoppages are scheduled from today until next Sunday; and from Saturday 27 to Monday 29 August.
