The Court of Auditors refuses to lower the sentence of five million euros to the leaders of 9-N

The Court of Auditors has dismissed the appeal filed by the former Minister Francesc Homs, to which the former President of the Generalitat Artur Mas joined, against the liquidation of interest for the expenses derived from the sovereign consultation of November 9, 2014. The accounting body thus agrees to maintain the sentence to return almost five million euros that it imposed on the leaders who promoted 9-N. The decision, according to sources from the Court of Accounts, has been taken unanimously.

Homs, in its appeal, requested to reduce the amount claimed by about 400,000 euros, arguing that the interest was not properly calculated by the Court of Auditors itself. This appeal was seconded, in addition to the former president, by those who were fellow government officials: former ministers Irene Rigau, Joana Ortega, Josefina Valls and Jordi Vilajoana.

The Court of Accounts sentenced the leaders who promoted the illegal consultation to pay 4.9 million. To that amount, one more million would have to be added in interest, which is what the convicts intended to reduce, understanding that the calculation of interest had to be frozen at the time they began to make consignments.

However, the auditing body of accounts has stopped dead on Monday the reduction claims of the pro-independence leaders. The order with the arguments used by the Court of Accounts will be known in the coming days.
