The construction of the great cover of the Sagrera begins

The construction of the Sagrera station begins a new and decisive phase: the placement of the roof, which will cover an area of 50,400 square metres, practically the same as five blocks from the Eixample. In addition to covering the terminal -its upper level, the one dedicated to high speed- it will serve as the base of the future linear park, known as Camí Comtal, which, with 40 hectares, will be the largest urban park in Barcelona. Adif, responsible for the project, reported this Friday that the work on this part, which has just started.

The central area of the roof, measuring 23,400 square meters, will have the shape of an inverted pyramid and will be crowned by a 36-square-meter skylight through which natural light will enter the tracks and platforms. The two ends, which add up to 27,000 square meters, will be flat.

The pyramid-shaped part will be made up of a series of modules mounted on the main beams and will be completed with projections towards the sea side, the neighborhood of Sant Martí de Provençals, and the mountain side, that of La Sagrera, while the part The plan of the roof will be formed by precast beams mounted longitudinally.

The magnitudes of the Sagrera macroterminal are capital letters. The dimensions of the modules -between 5.56 meters and 16.32 meters in length and up to 95.5 tons in weight- and the large specialized machinery used for lifting and placing them, give an idea of the magnitude of this phase. Once the assembly of the roof is complete, a 30 cm thick concrete slab will be built on its surface, which will be the floor of the future park.

Work on the future station is advancing at a good pace, although an estimated date for completion or commissioning has not yet been given. The structures of its different central levels have already been completed, the lower one, which will be for Rodalies, the intermediate one, which will have the vestibule, connected to the two lateral ones -those of La Sagrera and Sant Martí-, which will serve as connectors for the different internal spaces, and the upper one, the high speed one, which is the one that will have the greatest length, and which already has the ground and the structures on which the roof will be placed.

As for the routes of the different lines, those of Rodalies of the Maresme corridor have gone through their final disposition, through the future station, although without stopping, since December 2020. The same occurs with that of Granollers, since last December, when the Sant Andreu station was also opened.

Work is being done on the re-entrainment of high-speed tracks through the future station. Since last December, the section between La Sagrera and Mollet del Vallès has run on a single track in order to link the route, which since it opened in January 2013 has been provisional while the station is being built. The future laying will also go through the logistics area, known as the Train Technical Treatment Zone (ZTTT), which is being erected after the terminal and which is expected to be ready in two phases, next year and 2025.
