Parallel to the debate raised by the reform of the crime of sedition, another of the pending issues in Spanish politics is taking place: the anomalous situation of the General Council of the Judiciary and the Constitutional Court, pending renewal by legal imperative.

The negotiating commission of the Council that must address the renewal of four members of the Constitutional Court will meet next Wednesday to try to advance in the appointment of two magistrates before the end of 2022.

During the plenary session of the Council on November 3, the progressive group put on the table the name of the magistrate of the Supreme Court José Manuel Bandrés as one of the candidates.

The conservatives promised to analyze the applicant and present a name to occupy the other position. The instructor of the procés in the Supreme Court, Pablo Llarena, is emerging as the favorite. He is not guaranteed that he will accept. The next on the list of conservatives if Llarena rejects it is Judge Julián Sánchez Melgar, according to the Servimedia agency.

The other two members of the Court are to be appointed by the Government.

Simultaneously with this negotiation, the Constitutional Court plans to admit for processing in the coming days the appeal of the PP against the reform of the PSOE, which precisely enables the General Council of the Judiciary to appoint these magistrates.
