The coldest Christmas in the US in decades

Storm Elliot has plunged much of the United States under a blanket of extreme cold, snow and ice in the midst of Christmas holidays, the coldest recorded in the country for decades. The storm, caused by an arctic air front, has begun to abate this Sunday after leaving a balance of more than twenty fatalities.

This winter bomb cyclone storm has brought sub-zero temperatures from Canada to Texas in its wake, along with heavy snowfall and strong gusty winds. As a result, some 200,000 users were still without power this Sunday at noon and nearly 3,000 flights had to be cancelled, so many citizens have seen their Christmas plans frustrated.

What worries the most are the fatalities caused by the storm, many of whom have been found in vehicles, homes and on the street. For this reason, the authorities in the most affected areas, such as New York, have asked citizens to spend Christmas inside their homes.
