The Civil Guard rescues the lifeless body of a hiker on a route in Alicante

The Civil Guard of Alicante has rescued the lifeless body of a hiker who fainted while hiking along a route in La Vall de Laguar, as it passed through the municipality of Vall d'Ebo. The transfer of the body, due to the route taken by the hiker and the type of terrain, lasted until late at night.

Yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, August 22, at 5:55 p.m., the Civil Guard received a distressing notice warning of the fainting of a 28-year-old man who was accompanied by relatives on the PR-CV 147 hiking route, known such as the Barranco del Infierno, in La Vall de Laguar, at the height of the municipality of Vall d'Ebo.

Immediately, a rescue and care operation was launched, transferring to the place the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Team (GEREIM) of Ontinyent and the Judicial Police Territorial Team (ETPJ) of Altea. In addition, a helicopter from the Alicante Provincial Fire Department Consortium was mobilized, with its specialized team on board.

Upon arriving at the scene of the incident, the optional medical personnel certified the death of the hiker, and the body was transferred on foot by the agents themselves to the vehicular access point to the route. This process was considerably hampered due to the extensive journey that the hiker had taken since 07:00 in the morning of the same day.

The uneven terrain, characterized by a high unevenness and the presence of loose stones, added complexity to the rescue operation. Finally, the agents arrived at 11:30 p.m., taking an hour and a half to complete the section.

Once in the parking area, the body was transferred to the Alicante Forensic Anatomical Institute for the corresponding autopsy.

The Civil Guard recalls the importance of taking precautions when carrying out outdoor activities, especially in rugged and challenging terrain such as the Barranco del Infierno. It is essential to have the proper equipment, be well informed about the route and weather conditions, and notify family or friends of the planned itinerary before embarking on these types of adventures.
