The changes in the June 2024 selectivity

All Catalan institutes have received a circular regarding the university entrance exam (PAU) for next June 2024 with the adaptations that correspond to the new Lomloe baccalaureate curriculum that began to be applied last year.

The structure of the test will be maintained as in previous years, as will the evaluation criteria, but four subjects are incorporated and some modifications are introduced to adapt to the Lomloe curriculum, for centers that have applied it comprehensively.

The new subjects are: performing arts, general sciences, history of music and dance and dramatic literature.

The exam of the two common subjects of Catalan language and literature and Spanish language and literature will continue to have two options (A and B) that are each made up of three parts (reading comprehension, written expression and linguistic reflection).

The questions referring to Literature in the reading comprehension section will include two options to choose one. The first will be based on the prescriptive readings of the 2nd year of high school (which will be the same as those of 2022-2023).

Option B will be based on the specific literary education competencies of the Lomloe curriculum (Decree 171/2022, of September 20) and will be based on a brief dissertation around a text or texts, in which it will be necessary to identify fundamental aspects such as topics, genre and rhetorical figures, and assess the mobilization of students' literary knowledge.

For the rest of the subjects there will be no surprises. Students will again be able to choose between history or history of philosophy in the general phase. The other three common compulsory subjects in the general phase are Catalan, Spanish and the foreign language. In the specific phase, students will be able to take exams in up to three modality subjects to choose from among 23 subjects, with the four new ones.
