The Cervantes Institute will facilitate the learning of Spanish for refugees from Ukraine

The Cervantes Institute announced this Thursday that it will facilitate the teaching and dissemination of Spanish culture and language to Ukrainian refugees. The entity has signed an agreement with the Spanish Red Cross with which it will provide access with 6,500 free licenses to its online courses.

The agreement aims to integrate refugees of Ukrainian origin in Spain and facilitate language learning. It is aimed at the Spanish Red Cross reception program for applicants for international protection.

This is the first agreement to be formalized —under the standard model of agreement between the Cervantes Institute and the autonomous communities, councils, town councils, NGOs, universities and, in general, public or private Spanish institutions— dedicated to favoring Spanish support and teaching programs for Ukrainian refugees as one more element for their integration.

The action is part of the single agreement adopted by the Board of Directors on March 31, 2022 of the Cervantes Institute. An agreement that highlights that working for culture and education is committing to peace, democratic values, understanding between peoples and that, in the face of any event marked by violence, the response must be solidarity.
